Developmental editing takes place early on in the editing process to get a broader look at a piece and assess if certain elements help in contributing to the bigger picture. It takes a project and evaluates its plot structure, character development, and how coherent the story comes across as a whole.

In a developmental edit, I will ask about what your main goals with your work are as an author, and help guide you on how to align your project with those intentions and best set up your story for success.

Copyediting usually takes place after a project has gone through several drafts and edits beforehand, either with editors or beta readers. Copyediting focuses primarily on consistent grammar, spelling, and punctuation, as well as correcting for misused words to improve the overall readability of a manuscript.

In a copyedit, I will go over your work to help refine it for querying or self-publishing. If you have a style guide for reference I will use it, but for fiction and nonfiction (not academic) works, I primarily use The Chicago Manual of Style or The AP Style Guide.

The goal of hiring a sensitivity reader for a project is to ensure that appropriate care has been taken to represent marginalized or underrepresented communities in a work. For example: if a person without knowledge on the lives of disabled people is writing a work on a project that involves characters with disabilities, hiring a sensitivity reader would be beneficial to make sure that they are avoiding stereotypes and writing the characters in a respectful way.

I am able to offer these services specifically in regards to stories that feature characters with disabilities as well as stories with LGBTQ+ characters or themes.

On an hourly rate, I offer video discussions to work in real-time with writers regarding their work over Zoom, Discord, or Google Meet. These are one hour in length, and are typically available to be scheduled Tuesday through Friday from 8AM-5PM EST. If those hours are not within your availability, I can schedule on Saturdays or Sundays from 8AM-5PM EST for an extra fee.

In order to get the best grasp on your project, we will discuss the finer details of your work, and I may request an example to read before meeting to get a better understanding of your style if you are not already a client.
